INTRODUCTION
What are Golfwits Maps?
IMPORTANT! Golfwits Maps cannot be opened, viewed, printed, or recorded with any other application except a Golfwits Round Recorder.

Golfwits maps are digital files that contain hundreds of pieces of information that you can interact with to see distances from any two points on the map that you choose, set shots on the map that automatically generate your personal stats, print scorecards, print Pro Books, track multi-round stats, and more...

What is a Golfwits Round Recorder?
The Golfwits Round Recorder is FREE software that you can download to your desktop PC, Pocket PC, and Palm. This is the software application that allows you to open a Golfwits Map and do things like Preview the course, Print Scorecards and Pro Books, Score your Rounds, Track your stats, Show off your rounds to your friends, and more.

So, how do I get started?
The following instructions explain in complete detail how to get started. It is actually very easy. By following the instructions below you will be able to install Golfwits and download your own course map and use it on your desktop PC, Pocket PC, and Palm.

STEP 1: Download and Install Golfwits PC
IMPORTANT! Golfwits Maps cannot be opened, viewed, printed, or recorded with any other application except a Golfwits Round Recorder.
  1. Make sure you have downloaded Golfwits PC from www.golfwits.com and installed it on your desktop PC.
  2. Once it is installed, you should be able to find it in your Windows Start menu under:
Start | Programs | Siscosoft | Golfwits PC
  3. Golfwits PC comes with an example course: Homestead. You will see this listed in the course drop down list along with two recorded example rounds for Hal and Steve. You can view these rounds by double clicking them in the list or you can view just the map by selecting File | New in Golfwits PC and then entering your name in the Golfer Profile dialog box and selecting OK.
  4. Now you are ready to download your course map and pre-plan, print, and record your own rounds...

STEP 2: Download and Install your Course Map
IMPORTANT! If you have already paid for your course map or a map pack and your myGolfwits account won't let you download it without paying again, then click here to see how to solve this problem.
  1. Go to www.golfwits.com and buy your courses maps individually or buy a map pack to reduce your per map cost.
  2. When you click to download a map, you will see the red lettered "Click Here to Download Your Map Now!" link. Click this link to start the 'File Download' dialog box.
  3. Click the 'Save' button from the 'File Download' dialog box.
  4. You will now see the 'Save As' dialog box. From the 'Save in' drop down, select 'Local Disk (C:)'. Then double click the following folders: Program Files | Siscosoft | GolfwitsPC | Courses. You will see that Homestead is already in this folder.
  5. Select the 'Save' button to save your course to the courses folder:
        c:\program files\siscosoft\golfwitspc\courses
Note: If you have already purchased the map, you can re-download the course map from your myGolfwits account at www.golfwits.com without having to pay for it again. Each map you download gets stored in your map library so that you can re-download if you need to.

STEP 3: Open your course map in Golfwits PC
  1. From your Windows Start bar select Start | Programs | Siscosoft | Golfwits PC 2.0. Golfwits PC will open with a Course dropdown list and below that you will see the headings: Round, Date, Tees, Score
  2. Select your course map from the Course dropdown list. If your course is not in the Course dropdown list, then select View | Refresh. If the course map is still not in the Course dropdown list, then close Golfwits PC and go back to STEP 2: Download and Install your Course Map
  3. Select File | New
  4. Enter your name, select the tees you will be playing from, and select the club that you use to hit 150 yards and select OK
  5. You can now view your course map. Select the right and left arrows on your keyboard to advanced to each hole.

STEP 4: Record your Shots and Generate Stats
  1. In the bottom right hand corner of the map you will see Scoring, Edit, Distance. Make sure "Scoring" is selected.
  2. Hover your mouse pointer over the course map, then hold down the left mouse button and drag. You will see a golf ball and a box with the yellow numbered distance remaining to the center of the green floating near the ball, we call this box the "Floating Indicator".
  3. Release the left mouse button at the spot where you want to indicate your ball came to rest on the course. You can adjust the location of the ball by holding down the left mouse button and dragging. Note: the shot is not set at this point.
  4. Now we are going to select a shot shape. Hover your mouse pointer inside the "Floating Indicator" and hold down the left mouse button and drag your mouse from left to right without leaving the inside of the box. You will see that you have some shot shapes that you can select from: hook, draw, straight, fade, slice. Release the left mouse button on the shot shape that best represents the flight path of your ball. Note: If you drag outside the box, and your ball moves, place your back in the right spot and then select the shot shape.
  5. When you release the left mouse button on the shot shape that you want, the Club Selection dialog box will automatically appear. Select the club you used from this list. You will see that the page on the right is automatically populated with your stats.
  6. Repeat 2 through 5 for each shot to the green. When you reach the green and record your shot, you will see the Putts dialog box appear.
  7. In the Putts dialog box you will see a black line across the top of the dialog. Drag the black box across the line to the distance your ball is from today's pin placement. You will only set this for the first putt distance.
  8. From the putting matrix, select where each putt went and hit OK. Note: If you chipped the ball in the hole from off the green, do not make any selections in the Putts dialog box. Simply hit OK.
  9. You are now looking at your completed stats for the first hole. Above the automatically recorded stats, you will see Statistics, Scorecard, and Hole Review. Click on each of these to familiarize yourself with these pages. The Hole Review page creates written notes about what you just did.

STEP 5: Print ProBooks, Scorecards, TrophySheets
  1. Select File | Print. To print anything, you must be looking at your course map in Golfwits PC. If you cannot see your course map, then repeat STEP 3: Open your Course Map in Golfwits PC.
  2. The Print dialog box has four tabs: Pro Book, Standard Scorecard, 1 Page Trophy and 2 Page Trophy. The Pro Book is for taking with you to the course and marking your shots on the map by placing a dot or an X where your shot landed and after the round recording it in Golfwits PC. The Standard Scorecard is your print out of your scorecard stats. The 1 and 2 Page Trophies are 18 and 9 hole pages respectively showing a visual representation of how you played your round on paper -- a "bragging rights" print out.

STEP 6: Explore the Menu and Help File
  • There is a lot more to Golfwits than what is covered above. Please take some time to explore the menu and the Help File under Help | Contents.
